With iOS 9, jailbreaking seemed to reach epic proportions, with more jailbreak utilities being released than we could possibly hope for. Sadly, that all came to an end with iOS 10 and it seems that Apple may finally be gaining the upper hand in the fight against it. While we wait patiently to see what iOS 11 download [ext link] will bring us, we need to start looking to the future and one of the tools we have at our disposal right now is one called TinyUmbrella.

Seasoned jailbreakers will be aware of TinyUmbrella but for those of you who are not, it is a tool that allows us to save our SHSH blobs. Whenever a new iOS version is released and you update to it, you get something called a SHSH blob and, when the next erosion is released that previous version is no longer signed meaning you cannot downgrade back to it. With TinyUmbrella, you can save your SHSH blobs with every update you do on your device and, at some point in the future when the tool receives its update, you will be able to use these SHSH blobs to downgrade back to an iOS version that can be jailbroken.

Right now, TinyUmbrella only allows you to save your SHSH blobs, although it used to be a fully working tool that let you downgrade to an earlier iOS version so you could jailbreak. However, Apple has since managed to patch up the security hole that was used to let us make use of those saved blobs. So, the good news is you can still save your SHSH blobs and, while you can’t use them to downgrade right now, you will be able to in the future. Secondly, the developer has given the tool an update which gives it support for iOS 11. So, although we cannot jailbreak right now, we can save our blobs for future use.
